How Lil Boosie Ended Up On Trial For Murder
Lil Boosie's life is on the line. Currently in the midst of a murder trial that could leave the Louisiana rapper rotting in a prison cell for the remainder of his earthly existence, there is no downplaying the seriousness of the situation the man born Torrance Hatch now finds himself in.
It seems like just yesterday the gaudy gold and diamond jewelry wearing MC was on top of the world. So how did it get to this point? Peep the timeline of events that has the once promising rapper on trial for his life.
October 22, 2008 // Fresh off featuring on two of the biggest singles in his career, “Wipe Me Down (Remix)” and “Independent,” Hatch is arrested after police find marijuana, a rolled blunt and a handgun in a car he is driving.
September 22, 2009 // Boosie takes a plea deal to a third-offense marijuana possession charge. He is ordered to wear an electronic monitoring device and is required to clear all performance dates with the court until his sentencing date.
November 10, 2009 // Facing 10 years in prison with all but two years suspended, Judge Chip Moore doubles Boosie's sentence after the ankle monitor reveals that the rapper has violated probation while awaiting sentencing. The rapper is ordered to report straight to prison.
June 17, 2010 // While serving out his sentence in the Dixon Correctional Institute, an East Baton Rouge Parish grand jury indicts Hatch on first-degree murder charges. The indictment claims that Boosie paid teen hit man Michael “Marlo Mike” Louding $2,800 to murder alleged rival Terry Boyd, 35, in October 2009. The rapper is also hit with eight other charges that include conspiracy to introduce codeine into a penal system. Boosie may be eligible for the death penalty if found guilty on the murder charge.
June 28, 2010 // Bad Azz enters a not guilty plea in a Louisiana courtroom on the murder and conspiracy charges.
July 22, 2011 // A report surfaces that claims "Marlo Mike" confessed that Boosie also encouraged him to kill 33-year-old local rapper, Chris "Nussie" Jackson. Boosie is not charged in Jackson's murder.
November 29, 2011 // Boosie pleads guilty to trying to introduce drugs into Dixon Correctional Center once and Angola State Penitentiary twice and is sentenced to eight years in prison.
A judge sets the murder trial date for April 30.
March 30, 2012 // East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney Hillary Moore III announces they will not seek the death penalty. It is also revealed that a rarely used secret jury will be employed in the trial.
April 25, 2012 // Judge Mike Erwin rules that lyrics from one of Lil Boosie's songs can be used as evidence against him in his murder trial. Interrogating officer, Alvin Howard, says that specific lines from an unspecified song contain an admission to Boosie's guilt.
April 30, 2012 // Roughly 150 East Baton Rouge Parish residents gather for jury selection.
May 5, 2012 // Opening arguments begin in the Lil Boosie murder trial.
May 7, 2012 // On Day 3 of the trial, Marlo Mike is instructed to show the jury the tattoo on his chest that reads, "Yo Boosie Who's Next?"
