The Top 10 Most Popular Hip Hop Singles The Week 10/7/13

DJ Khaled wins with "I Feel Like Pac, I Feel Like Biggie" while Game enlists Skeme, Too Short and ScHoolboy Q for an "OKE" cut.
This week's Top 10 is helmed by a feature-heavy track from DJ Khaled's upcoming seventh studio album, while the second spot is snatched up bya popular track from Game's OKE. Paris Hilton's Lil Wayne featuring YMCMB single debut manages to claim the third spot just ahead of a much talked-about collaboration between Chicago rapper Chief Keef and Taylor Gang frontmanWiz Khalifa. The list is rounded out by Lil Wayne and Mack Maine's "Original Silence" as well as Childish Gambino's return to the mic with "Yaphet Kotto."

DJ Khaled’s “I Feel Like Pac, I Feel Like Biggie” Pushes To The Top

With Suffering from Success now scheduled for an October 22 release, DJ Khaled’s posse cut in honor of Hip Hop legends Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G. buzzes ahead of the album’s release at the end of this month. Khaled has released six albums leading up to Suffering from Success and this summer the DJ-producer announced a release date pushback with the justification that the album “got greater.” “I told you I’m working on the biggest masterpiece ever,” he said. “I just recorded something so crazy that it’s going to have the whole streets erupt, earthquake-style. Shit got even realer. This shit [is] serious.”
The “I Feel Like Pac, I Feel Like Biggie” single was released at the top of this week and features verses from longtime collaborator Rick Ross, as well as Meek Mill and T.I. Swizz Beatz and Diddy also make appearances on the song’s introduction, hook and outro. In a verse sandwiched between Ross and T.I., Meek Mill raps about the death of both Hip Hop legends. “Man they hit Big in the passenger, hit Pac in the passenger / So I’m riding ‘round with this Mac on me / And a bunch of shooters in back of us / Roll up and you a dead man.” Diddy’s short appearance on the song’s outro addresses comparisons to artists like those listed in the song’s title. “How you gon’ compare yourself to greatness if you ain’t ready to be great, man?” he says, “ain’t no more to it.”

Game’s “OKE” Cut Features Too Short, ScHoolboy Q, Skeme And Stacy Barthe

Given that much of Game’s recent OKE release is characterized by the many feature appearances, “Astronaut Pussy, Welcome To California” fits the mold with its guest verses from Skeme, Too Shortand ScHoolboy Q as well as a feature from Brooklyn singer Stacy Barthe. The song, which is a meandering, nearly 11 minute affair, finds more than just Game rapping about his home state of California. The beat, which features an obvious interpolation of Britney Spears’ 2003 hit “Toxic,” bubbles up through the verses and settles down on the chorus. For his verse, Skeme spits a charged up set of bars fitting his counterpart’s attack. “A young nigga really tryin’ to stunt, fuck it / West Side angles and I ain’t budging / Independent niggas with no budget / If it ain’t about a dollar got a change subjects / Rap ass niggas ain’t sayin’ nothin’ / This flow here, niggas can’t touch it.”
OKE was released Wednesday (October 9).

Cam'ron Reveals Reason Behind Dipset Album Delay

Cam'ron Reveals Reason Behind Dipset Album Delay

Cam'ron preparing to release new "First Of The Month" video series, talks "Ghetto Heaven Vol. 1" skits.
While appearing on Hoodrich Radio this week, Harlem emcee Cam’ron revealed the reason why a new Dipset album has yet to happen. According to the Crime Paysrapper, a conflict in schedules is the primary reason those who are a part of the Harlem-based crew have yet to record tracks for a new The Diplomats project.
Cam’ron later went on to state that the end-product would not be genuine if those in Dipset were to knock out the album in a short period of time.
“Well, you know we all good with each other,” said Cam. “It’s about everybody—everybody still got a lot going on. You know what I’m saying? It’s about everybody just being on the same page and not being busy. Everybody got something going on right now. So, we all just gotta get on the same page and if we get the time, but it’s definitely all love. It’s just about nobody wants to sit in the studio for a week and just do a Dipset album cause it wouldn’t be genuine. So, basically we trying to figure out the time schedule so we can do it and get it right.”
A Dipset album may not be in the works at the moment, but in the meantime Cam’ron has again shifted his attention to acting. At the top of next year, he plans on introducing a new video series titled “First Of The Month.” The monthly series will consist of 30-minute episodes, which will be accompanied by new music.
“What I’m doing is I’m working on a series right now it’s called ‘First Of The Month’,” Cam’ron said. “And what I’mma start doing is instead of like putting out a movie every month, I mean every year or two years, etc. we’re doing like 30-minute episodes where it comes out on the first of the month and the name of the series is ‘First Of The Month.’ And we gon’ put music out every month with the series. Right now I’m working on a deal figuring out where we gonna distribute it at, but it’ll definitely be out the top of the year in January.”
Most recently, Cam released Ghetto Heaven Vol.1, a mixtape which dropped on October 1. Amidst tracks featuring the likes of 2 Chainz and Shy Boogs, the mixtape also features a handful of skits and according to the Dipset founder, it was through social media that he found the inspiration for that particular addition to his mixtape.
“The skits on this joint basically came from—you know Instagram is poppin’, so everybody be talking about it and they hear what girls be arguing about,” he said. “And when guys be seeing this catfish and this, that, and the third, so I just put one together cause one of my homegirls was mad about her boyfriend liking a girls picture or something like that. So, we just put it together from there.”
Over the past couple of years, various members of Dipset have offered updates on a new album from the Harlem crew. In March of this year, Juelz Santana revealed that there are “definitely” plans for an in-studio reunion among those in Dipset. "We definitely going to get back in the studio and start working on some music and if the vibe is good and the music is coming out the way it's supposed to come out. We going to put that record out," said Juelz during an interview with HipHopSince1987.

Boaz featuring Wiz Khalifa - "Gettin' After That Money" [VIDEO]

Pittsburgh rapper Boaz drops a video for "Gettin' After That Money" featuring his Rostrum Records labelmate Wiz Khalifa.
The two MCs spit freely over an industrial flavored,  Hot Trak produced instrumental. The visual keeps things focused as Wiz and Boaz kick their bars, and smoke freely, in the studio.
The selection here is from the Bases Loaded mixtape that Boaz dropped late last year, but you can expect a proper new album sooner than later via Rostrum, of course.

Singer Lorde’s “Royals” Considered Racist [Video]

Singer Lorde’s “Royals” Considered Racist

Lorde’s song “Royals,” which discusses consumerism in Hip Hop has become a big hit, but one writer took to her blog to declare the track racist.
According to CNN
An international war of words has broken out over a New Zealand pop star’s chart-topping single, after an American blogger labeled the track racist.
“Royals,” the debut single by Lorde, the stage name of Ella Yelich-O’Connor, currently sits above hits from Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, making the 16-year-old the youngest artist to top the U.S. chart in 26 years.
The singer — who sings about rejecting the trappings of consumerism in “Royals” and has admonished fellow pop star Selena Gomez for being insufficiently feminist — has won plaudits from critics as a refreshing presence in the charts. But not everyone is a fan.
In a post on the prominent feminist blog feministing.com, writer Veronica Bayetti Flores took issue with the song’s lyrics, in which Yelich-O’Connor sings that “every song” is about gold teeth and Maybach luxury cars — both fixtures of hip-hop music videos — before concluding “we don’t care, we’re driving Cadillacs in our dreams.”
“While I love a good critique of wealth accumulation and inequity, this song is not one; in fact, it is deeply racist,” wrote Bayetti Flores. “Because we all know who she’s thinking when we’re talking gold teeth, Cristal (champagne) and Maybachs. So why s— on black folks? Why s— on rappers?”
A spokesman for Universal Music New Zealand, Lorde’s label, said the singer had no comment in response to the criticism.
In an interview with NPR, Lorde described how the song was inspired by the messages conveyed by the pop music she had grown up with.
“I was just sort of reeling off some of the things which are commonly mentioned in hip-hop and the Top 40,” she said.
“I’ve always loved hip-hop, but as a fan of hip-hop, I’ve always had to kind of suspend disbelief because, obviously, I don’t have a Bentley. There’s a distance between that and the life I have with my friends going to parties and getting public transport and doing the things that every other teenager does.”
The lyrics in question are:
But every song’s like gold teeth, Grey Goose, tripping in the bathroom,
Blood stains, ball gowns, trashing the hotel room,
We don’t care, we’re driving Cadillacs in our dreams.
But everybody’s like Cristal, Maybach, diamonds on your time piece,
Jet planes, islands, tigers on a gold leash.
We don’t care, we aren’t caught up in your love affair.
