Snoop Dogg Demos [Listen/Download]

Snoop Dogg Demos

[Words By: JES7]

snoop-over-the-counter
Today marks the 20 year anniversary of Snoopzilla-Dogg-Lion’s debut, Doggstyle, and this past week we were blessed with this amazing gift, a DJ mix of all the funk records sampled on the album. I won’t front, I was not much of a fan of Snoop when I firstheard him. Save for a few West Coast artists like Spice 1, Compton’s Most Wanted and Too $hort, I was too busy being on the East Coast’s dizzick to really check for what the West was doing, despite residing on the Way Left Coast (Hawaii) at the time. Personal opinions aside, I’ve eventually grown to love Uncle Snoop’s music and the contributions he and Dre made to rap music, including the entire G-Funk sound that was incorporated into the music in the early 90s.
More recently, I stumbled upon a demo tape from Snoop titled Over the Counter. Obviously, being that they were ripped from tape (which were previously made available at swap meets during Snoop’s come up), the quality is basura. Still, it’s nice to hear some of these early cuts and rarities, some of them ending up being refined and making their way onto Doggystyle. Also included in this post are some cuts from 2009′s Death Row: The Lost SessionsNOTE: We are by no means claiming these are super rare; they’re readily available out there on the internet. We’re presenting it to those who may have never heard these before.

    Rapper

  4. Marvin Watson Jr., better known by his stage name Messy Marv, is an American rapper who grew up in the Fillmore district of San Francisco, California. He is the cousin of San Quinn, Stevie Johnson, and Ya Boy.Wikipedia

  5. BornMarch 19, 1976 (age 37)

  6. Recent career[edit]

On November 2, 2007, Messy Marv was released from jail after serving twelve months on weapons charges.[4] In the spring of 2012, Messy Marv released the hit mixtape, Da Frank Lucas Dat Neva Wore Da Mink Coat and released the hit single, "You Gotta Pay Me". In 2013, he announced the release of his newest LP "Playboy Gangsta" under his new moniker LilPaperdupMess, and released 3 singles as promotionals for the album: "We Killas", "Beautiful Kalifornia", & "A Girlfriend Ain't What I Need". Marv confirmed via Twitter a release date of July 23, 2013 for the LP.

    Controversy[edit]

    Obie Trice[edit]

In 2005, he was in a feud with G-Unit, which escalated when Obie Trice, a member of Shady Records, went to the radio station KMEL and said, "in San Francisco I have to cover my a**." A diss track was released by Guce and Messy Marv, "50 Explanations", on the album Pill Music: The Rico Act, Vol. 150 Cent and Sha Money XL then exchanged words over the phone with Guce's camp. He afterwards said, "it's over with, and it never kicked off".[5]

    San Quinn[edit]

Messy Marv started a feud with his cousin San Quinn on September 22, 2008, by calling the latter a "snitch".[6] On December 11, Quinn told HipHopDX that he "loves" Messy Marv despite the diss tracks that they have both sent to each other.[7] In a 2010 interview with WordofSouth, he stated the reason for the beef was because he was "talking too much", but that they are attempting to squash the feud.[8]

    Too Short[edit]

On August 3, 2011, Watson Jr. started a beef with rapper Too Short on Twitter.[9] According to HipHipDX, Messy Marv was apparently calling the latter's support of peers into question, while Short offered to meet face-to-face to discuss the matter in private.[10] It is unclear how the beef started, but one way it possibly started was when Too Short was featured on a song by 40 Glocc called 'Welcome to California", where he reportedly said that the Bay Area was not a place forCrips and Bloods. "I guess he took that [to mean] I was talking about him. I don’t know [what he thought]. It went way over my head. One of my Frisco homies told me the other day he was mad at me over the 40 Glocc song," said the rap legend, as Marv is affiliated with a Piru Blood gang. Another cause for the beef might have been, states the report, that Marv and other area emcees may wrongfully recall being threatened if they did not align with Short's Up All Nite imprint in 2007.

    Spider Loc[edit]

On April 19, 2007, rapper Spider Loc released a diss track at Marv, and Game called "Ova Killa" featuring Papa Smurf.[11]

    Mistah F.A.B.[edit]

In 2009, Messy Marv mocked rapper Mistah F.A.B.'s chain getting stolen repeatedly.[12] This led to diss tracks being sent between the rappers, including F.A.B. sending one entitled "Okay" where he impersonates Watson Jr.[13]

    Philthy Rich[edit]

On September 25, 2013, Philthy Rich released a track entitled "Swear to God" featuring Kurt Diggler. It dissed Marv and Bay Area rappers Kafani & DB Tha General.[14]. The track is to appear on his upcoming album N.E.R.N.L. 3. In response, Marv plans on releasing a diss record entitled Philthy Rich Is a Bitch on October 22.
